Want to know how to decorate for fall without using the typical browns and oranges? When it comes to decorating for the holidays, I love the tradition of decorating but do not tend to style using the traditional fashion. I like to look at current/future trends to see what inspires me creating new spaces for my home. This year looking through so many inspirations took me to the olive color and velvet fabrics. While velvet has been in for a couple years (& it isn’t leaving anytime soon) Olive green is new and may become the new black before you know it. Not your traditional fall colors, I know, but these few changes wholly transformed my home into a cozy environment for the cooler weather and for hosting friends and family during the holidays!
Olive Tones & Velvet Textures
A lot of y’all know that I have been having a hard time with my Fall Décor this year, and I am so thrilled that I finally get to share with you what I have come up with for this new upcoming season!
Olive is the new black, and I couldn’t be more excited about this trend! Don’t get me wrong I love the traditional look, but doesn’t this olive really bring a whole new persona to this space? Get ready to see it popping up all over during the fall and winter months, especially in the design world.
I wanted to also share with you all the new texture I added to my living room as well! All this velvet, has me reliving the 90’s! Velvet has such a rich, luxurious feeling and using it in this room to add layers and layers of depth. Using different textures throughout your room not only brings in a fun contrast but also adds a little more warmth. This allows you to transform your room for the cooler months without spending too much money.
Pillows
I brought in many new pillows this season, one of my favorite items to change. These new additions are everything I was hoping they would be, and I am so excited to enjoy them this season! I’m sure as some of you know, holiday decor can tend to be very feminine. To add contrast, I brought in touches of masculine patterns, colors, and textures. Pillows are a great way to achieve that counterbalance.
Coming up with the vision and idea for these pillows was simple but finding them wasn’t that easy. I had an idea in mind but couldn’t find a pillow that would give me the look I wanted to achieve. So I contacted one of my favorite shops to design these 3 stripped linen pillows. Working with Jillian Rene Décor on Etsy is always enjoyable and the process is SO simple. I have linked a similar one if you want to make it even easier while still achieving the same feel. To accentuate the olive color in the room I incorporated olive linen pillows on the other side of the room. Melting all of these colors together perfectly is this gorgeous velvet lumbar pillow. Carefully playing with patterns, colors, and textures will give you the professional look you’re wanting.
With cooler weather in store (not really in Houston, but one can dream) bringing throw blankets into this space was a must. This deep navy throw with fringe accents was the perfect fit to add pop and texture against the solid olive pillows. These aren’t super heavy in weight which is exactly what I needed for this space!
Fall Foliage
One of my favorite pieces in this space is this AMAZING brass table vase! It had to have a prominent place in the room so the mantel it was. I filled the vase with overflowing succulents using organic colors. Such a simple DIY project and I love the way it continues the pops of green adding the lushness this room was craving! This vase comes in four sizes (this is the XL) and is so versatile. Perfect for any space (coffee tables, side tables, foyer, mantel).

Fall Accessories
Changing the coffee table accessories even a little can really make your space feel so different and new! You always want your table to stimulate the eye. One way to achieve this is by adding an oversized piece and items of varying height. This gray vase was a HomeGoods find (here is a similar one) and is the perfect canvas for what is to come. Coffee table books are always a great base to add height. Remember you want to continue to layer all your pieces to get that polished professional look. To see what the room looked like last fall take a look back!
