Now that our Christmas trees and garland are styled to perfection, it is time to extend our holiday décor to encompass all our small spaces. To achieve that “pro” look it is essential to incorporate these areas into your overall design plan. In today’s edit, I am sharing all my tips and tricks for styling small spaces for Christmas to complete your winter wonderland and have your home feeling magical for the holidays.
Keeping it Functional:
This year I did three Christmas trees in our living room (I know CRAZY) and I love the finished product (click here to see how you can style your Christmas Tree like a pro)! Since the trees are my focal point, I wanted to balance that with clean yet dramatic items in my small spaces. If you decided to do a more minimal tree you want to do the opposite and create a more exciting and filled space. Regardless, you want to keep these small spaces functional (most are high traffic areas). Adding your decor items on top of a tray is a great way to keep small spaces useful and easy to move when you need to use the area.

Reimagine what you already have:
Every year I am inspired and design a new holiday concept for my house, but what you won’t find me doing is buying all new items every year! If this is your first year branching out to decorate your small spaces do not stress thinking that you have to go and purchase everything new! Instead, utilize items you already have but reimagine and use them in different ways. Borrowing elements from different rooms and using your leftover Christmas ornaments/objects will be plenty to fill those tabletops.

When decorating a small space (foyer table, side table, etc.), start with the statement piece you want to showcase in that space, layering in smaller objects around. Using items of various heights to fill your space will be stimulating to the eye. Some examples of the statement items I use are wreaths, vases (filled with extra picks), figurines and cone trees.
Shimmer and Shine:
Now we need to layer in our accent pieces into our small space. There is no such thing as too much shimmer and shine when decorating for the holidays. Using extra ornaments to sprinkle around your tray or placing them inside a vase is a great way to add a hint of glitter. Adding candles big or small in the unique holders will add warmth and glow only a fire can give (why our fireplace is always on)! And I love this bench; perfect place for us to sit and tie our shoes!

Adding All the Trimmings:
Adding trimmings to your space is like adding the icing! Baskets overflowing with throws, pillows or firewood are great ways to fill an empty corner. Placing lanterns filled with candles and ornaments by the tree or fireplace instantly adds coziness. Have a piece of wall art, blank window or bar, merely adding a wreath makes for the perfect topping.
