It’s never too early to start thinking about new trends and how to incorporate them into your home. While trends can get overwhelming and costly to keep up with, they’re fun to study and they can be achievable. I want to share all of my favorite 2019 interior design trends you can be on a look out for this year. Some of the 2018 trends are still in but they may have a new edge to them.
While I don’t suggest letting design trends take over your home there are definitely some ways to integrate these into your home. Select your favorite trends and see how you can fit them into your aesthetics.
Accent Walls
Busy and dramatic accent walls are supposedly a thing of the past. I still love them so much and will likely continue to incorporate them into my design but I want to give you insight as to what the biggest trend is now. Let a single color and maybe even a little texture set your walls apart. These bold walls will be the perfect backdrop for your furniture or maybe your favorite piece of art. Another fun trend is to use decorative tile on your walls. If you want the pattern to be bold be sure to use a light grout color against the dark tile!
Floors
Did you notice light color floors popping up on your Pinterest (link my MRI) page at the end of 2018? This trend will only grow bigger in 2019. If you are remodeling or building be sure to add light floors to your home! I love our floors! The light color makes them super easy to maintain. The exact floor is linked here for you. Fabrics have changed a lot in the past couple of years. You can now own those light colored sofas you always dreamed of without the stress of staining them. Performance fabrics are no longer stiff and uncomfortable. Crypton fabric is THE best and has so much to offer. Many pieces are now being sold in this performance fabric so you don’t even have to go custom.
Below is a pic of a favorite wood floor sample I keep on deck!
Comfort
Did this trend ever leave? Well if it left your area be sure to indulge this year. Layer those soft rugs, buy comfy throw blankets and settle on a lush and deep sofa. Before you go and purchase a new sofa, make sure it will fit your room. I have all those deets in this blog post.
Paint Colors
Neutrals
This is probably one of my favorite trends to follow each year. Neutral color palettes are changing and so should the color selections you make. If you’re going for a neutral paint be sure to choose something that has a warmer undertone and leave the stark whites behind. Neutrals can be gray but not the cold grays that have been around in the past. Integrate more of a taupe/gray color. Benjamin Moore elected the color Metropolitan as their color of the year. This was quite contrasting to many of the other color choices made by the other forecasters.
As stated by Benjamin Moore:
“Calm, composed and effortlessly sophisticated, Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year 2019, Metropolitan AF-690, exudes glamour, beauty and balance.”

Another warm neutral I have used several times is Shiitake by Sherwin Williams. It is such a light and beautiful color that is warm in nature yet works so great with both gray and brown tones. It’s my go to!
the color is much lighter and less beige on the walls so don’t let the sample card fool you!
Colorful
These colors are quite rich and daring and I LOVE it. If you’re going for a colorful palette, the warm undertones are still in but choose rich tones to that add drama. Benjamin Moore listed Hale Navy as a 2019 color trend. This is my go-to Navy paint color. Check it out in this dining room update we did in 2017.

Black
I talked about this trend a lot last year and it looks like we won’t be forgetting this color anytime soon. Bring the black into your kitchen on your cabinets or paint your entire powder room black. This will give you a high-end appearance that will leave everyone swooning. I recently completed this new construction full of black cabinets that are to die for!
Mixing Styles
Finally, mixing styles. Personally, I am most excited to see this trend evolve. I have noticed that every time I love a room or a designer it is one that includes different styles. I love glam pieces but not a room that consists of nothing but glam. Gold and brass, I love you, but not a room that is all gold. I love modern but not a room that is all modern. Do you catch my drift? It is so important to mix your elements so that you have a polished look that is magazine worthy. Take a twist on your home this year by uniting vintage pieces with modern ones. Glamorous décor with natural elements will set your home apart yet keep everything grounded. Have fun playing with different styles!
Last year I appeared on live TV to discuss the hottest trends for 2018. I have linked the video so please watch and let me know what you think! You may notice a few of the trends haven’t changed much.
