Today I am so happy to share a space in our home that has finally gotten some well deserved TLC! As the holidays were fast approaching, I had to get the practically empty guestroom fit for company! I wanted the feel of the room to have a masculine touch, but what makes a room masculine? For me, I wanted to create a masculine guestroom that showcased a minimalist feel with clean and simple lines, eclectic pieces used in unexpected ways and a warmer soothing color palette.
Creating Clean and Sleek Lines:
To achieve a minimalist and sleek room, I incorporated this ivory, wing-back upholstered bed atop this charcoal, geometric rug. When deciding on any large piece of furniture or investment piece, you want it to be timeless and make sure it will have longevity in your home. Y’all have heard me repeat time and time again how you can transform a room with small little changes and updates, but you need a start with a solid base. The rectangular, mottled mirrors with a metal frame and antique silver finish added the perfect touch of eclectic to this masculine guestroom.
Side and Console Tables
These mirrors are the major statement pieces in this room and I wanted them to remain the focal point. Finding the right side table to pair with was imperative. There were so many I loved for this space but I wanted to keep costs down. As soon as I found these I liked them but then I saw the price tag and I knew they were perfect! The end table is a perfect fit with the mix of metal and oak finish delivered the industrial appeal that a masculine guestroom should have.
I always want my guest to feel at home and have space where they can unwind. I decided to add a TV to this room and loved the idea of a console table. Console tables take up minimal space, which can be limited in guestrooms. Utilizing a console table allows space for our guest to place their items and decor elements that can play a dual role, such as these plush towels.
Unexpected Uses
Having a full-length mirror is such a treat in any bedroom, adding in an over-sized floor mirror to your space will make the room feel larger. The mix of wood and metal of this mirror struck the perfect balance between masculine and elegant. This mirror was a lucky find at Tuesday Morning, but I linked a similar one. Getting innovative in a small space is a must! I really wanted to add a vanity area in this room, but there was that space factor to consider. Adding a versatile piece like an accent table can be the perfect solution. It can double as a stool and create that vanity space for the ladies who need to apply their “face” in the mornings. The unique silhouette of this metal accent table added sleekness to the room.
Warm Colors
For this space, I wanted simple with clean lines utilizing warm, bold colors. A common misconception for a room to be masculine it has to be dark all over to get that deep, lush feeling, not true. Instead of using dark colors all over I paired rich and bold textiles with warmer light color tones to create a dramatic effect. The bed is full of texture and comfort, from the soft cotton coverlet, velvet grid stitched quilt, faux fur throw to the soft down-filled cushions. The wall color is Sherwin Williams City Loft, and the trim/door color is their Thunder Gray. This trim color and the wall color is used throughout the majority of my home!
Accentuating the Space
The key to achieving that magazine worthy look is simple, making sure to accent your space by styling small surfaces. This blog post is also great for tips on how to accessorize like a pro. One of my favorite 2019 trends is incorporating natural elements into your design. Adding in a ton of greenery to this masculine room was a must from the palm leaves in simple glass vases to the moss balls in the stunning handmade wooden bowl completed this guestroom.
Shop The Room
Having a guestroom that you genuinely love makes sharing it with your guests that much more special! Adding a masculine design to this guestroom was the perfect fit for our home. I hope this inspires you to take any space in your home that needs a little TLC and design it in any theme that speaks to you and items that excite your passion for design!
