It has been a really rough couple of weeks at the Roberts’ house. We have had some house issues, and it has done a number on my spirit. I try to be an open book with y’all and as we know more I will definitely be sharing the story. Instead of focusing on something I have no control over, I am turning my focus to something I cannot wait for…our SUMMER VACATION!! I have compiled your vacation travel essentials covering how to choose a vacation destination, planning an itinerary, what to pack, and my ultimate carry-on essentials.
DECIDING ON A DESTINATION
Since Nick and I ditched the corporate world and started our businesses, we seem to have less and less time to get away, something we are really trying to change. We look for destinations that are easily accessible to maximize our time away; luckily being near an international airport, we have tons of options. We like to travel to new places, to have new experiences. It is also important that we select destinations all around the world, exposing Maddox to different cultures. He studies the different towns and cultures before our arrival, and then we do some hands-on learning while we are there. You know we all get a little too cozy in our bubbles! Our upcoming trip is a bit different as the first leg of the journey was decided for us. We are heading to Puerto Rico for baseball, which isn’t a place I had on my radar but I am so glad we are going there. This island is beautiful and has so much to offer! The next leg of our trip we looked for destinations that would be close to PR that would otherwise be difficult to get to from Houston — settling on Anguilla and St. Martin!
PLANNING AN ITINERARY
During our day to day life, we are pretty fly by the seat of our pants type of people. However, when it comes to vacation, I do plan in advance to make sure we don’t miss any must-see places, but make sure to add plenty of free time so we can add in whatever our hearts desire! To narrow down the must do’s I do a lot of research, Pinterest is an excellent resource. When looking at Puerto Rico, I have had a TON of help from my sweet friend Darlene, a native Puerto Rican.
WHAT TO WEAR
This trip I am going for ease and comfort. When deciding what to wear, you must pack outfits that fit your itinerary! The first few days will be everything baseball followed by resorting, beaching and boats! Interchangeable outfits are a must, packing separates that can be styled differently is key!!
If you are looking for more inspiration for outfits, check out my Spring wardrobe essentials, it includes great options for separate pieces or simply shop my amazon. I have bought approximately 60% of my wardrobe from Amazon for this trip!
WHAT TO PACK
We are notorious light packers! Everyone gets one carry-on suitcase plus a backpack style bag. We would typically never check luggage, less to lose. But this trip it looks like baseball gear will have to get checked. To narrow down my wardrobe selections, I make sure the colors of my separates coordinate together making for multiple outfits. Next, I use the army roll technique, google it, you will thank me later! There are a few products I am obsessed with and cannot travel without them!!
