Creating a Gallery Wall

Creating a gallery wall is a great way to make a big statement in a room. There are plenty of guidelines and rules for you to follow to create the “best” wall. However, I find it important to use this art to express your personality.

You can go for an eclectic look using a variety of sizes and colors, or you can go with a tidy, patterned appearance using the same size and color frame; the options are limitless. Use colors that will blend well into your scheme. The more frames or pictures you use when creating a gallery wall,  the bigger the impact you will make.

Objects can be added in your gallery as well such as initials, crosses, small shelves, and/or arrows, etc. This is such a fun way to get creative and create meaningful art in your home. Getting the gallery wall to turn out exactly how you want takes patience and persistence.

Shop My Favorite Affordable Frames

While there is no exact layout or rules, I do have a couple of tips I use when creating a gallery wall:

  1. Find where the middle of your gallery will be… and start there.
  2. Use a larger piece in the middle to “anchor” and “focal point” your gallery
  3. Space the frames apart on all sides evenly; this does not need to be exact but try to be as close as possible. You don’t want one gap being 1″ and the other being 4″.
  4. Don’t shoot for perfection or your imperfections will become obvious.
  5. I like to even the weight from the focal point piece. To get this look means to simply use the same amount of space on each side (ex: maybe one long rectangular on the left & 3 smaller squares on the right).
  6. After each frame is hung, step back and look for the symmetry you’re trying to achieve… then make adjustments. I put a level on it to make sure it’s in order before moving to the next.
  7. Enjoy your masterpiece!

One of my favorite tools to use is this affordable little gem. She will save you lots of time and frsutration!

Remember to have fun and mix things up! Every December, I print a large canvas of my son, Maddox, from the prior year Christmas. I replace my main art pieces with Holiday art/pics to make it extra festive!
