With permits signed, sealed, and delivered we are full steam ahead with our outdoor patio renovation. I have always dreamed of a spacious patio area with a living space, dining space, and a POOL. To say I have been a little preoccupied searching for the perfect contemporary outdoor patio furniture is the understatement of the year. While we are in the final stages of the design phase, I have moved on to the furnishing stage. Although, I have yet to decide on the actual décor to complete this space; here are a few of the pieces that are in the running and others that have me drooling. I am sharing all my contemporary outdoor patio décor inspiration and what to look for when finalizing your selections.
MATERIALS MATTER
Of all the areas we decorate our home our outdoor space can be the most expensive. While there are ways to save, one area you don’t want to skimp is your patio material. Opt for textiles that will last more than one summer. My favorite outdoor material is Sunbrella®. While it may be more of an upfront investment, it will be one you won’t regret. It doesn’t fade and is durable. A furniture material that I love is Rattan. Its core is made from the Rattan vine and is extremely durable that stands the power washer test year after year.

COLOR INSPIRATION
My inspiration for the entire outdoor area is “modern Mediterranean”. This luxurious yet comfortable style is what outdoor patio dreams are made of. I know, how does that translate into color inspiration. Hear me out. We honeymooned in Greece, and I fell madly in love with the crisp whites from the architecture, the aqua blues from the seas and sky, and pops of bright colors all around. It is a truly magical place. Photo credit: Mr. Nicholas Roberts
If you are struggling to find your color inspiration look at magazines, pictures online, or at friends’ spaces — Hone in on what you want the overall vision for the area before you start. Then get busy!

FIND THE RIGHT HUE
Once the sun goes down let your patio come to life. Adding light to your outdoor space adds not only warmth but brings so much energy. The ever-evolving outdoor lighting has me super excited. I am totally into the rechargeable LED lights. Gone are the days you had to worry about being near a plug. You can hang these in trees or attach to yard stake, placing strategically around to create the perfect ambiance. I also love the idea of replacing the standard outdoor light/fan combo with a statement piece chandelier, making any space feel luxurious.

ADD THE COMFORTS
It is easy to stop once the outdoor furniture is purchased; even the best finds can add up quickly. To really take your outdoor area to the next level don’t forget to add in a few small comforts to make this space feel like an extension of the inside of your house. Just like indoor spaces I love anchoring the patio with an outdoor rug, keep it simple by selecting a rug with an easy maintenance material. Spring for the pillows, poufs, and even a light blanket or two for those chilly nights. Adding a few staple pieces of décor to tables/walls is a must. But keep it light and bright for the décor not to overcrowd the space. Check out my favorite Spring patio essentials.
The most fabulous vacation this summer is awaiting us in our backyards! When I envision our new outdoor patio space, I can literally see all the boys running around playing, an area full of laughter, and creating so many lasting memories. Don’t let your outdoor space be one you dread. It doesn’t have to be a total overhaul if that isn’t where you are at. Start by adding a few décor pieces and go from there. I hope you are as inspired as I am to see what a contemporary outdoor patio space can be. Over the next few months, I will be living & breathing this inspiration and would love to see how you are inspired.
