Ever dream of having a room or space that inspires ingenuity and creativity for your little one? Today I want to encourage you to be bold and curate something your littles will enjoy for years to come. I am going to give you pointers on how to achieve a fun and styled room that both you and the child can enjoy. For both of you to enjoy it, we must focus on creativity as well as function. Creative kids rooms are achievable and can be affordable if you include these simple ideas.
Finding the Space
Finding a dedicated space for creative kid space can be easy if you have a playroom in your home that will be devoted to the toys and games? But what if you don’t? Maybe you can get creative with a space that isn’t necessarily designed as a playroom but can be used that way. I once had a client with an abundance of wasted space in their living room. We dedicated the back corner of this room and created a play space for the children. Utilizing a credenza in the area allowed for the children to tuck away their board games and smaller toys to help eliminate visual clutter. Every kid’s room needs storage! Bookcases are always a great way to hide clutter and to store random things. You can find bookcases that are partially closed, fully closed, or open (such as etageres). Baskets are another great tool to help keep the space organized.

Designing with Kids in Mind
Maddox is fortunate to have a dedicated playroom as well as a bedroom. Really, I should call it his walk-in closet. He has yet to sleep in his bed; yes, he still sleeps with me every night, and I love it. Last Christmas he wanted to have his room decorated in Star Wars, this year it is baseball. While I don’t think the two themes work well together, it was important for me to give him a room, he loved filled with items he wanted. If they like the space and it excites them, they will want to spend time in it. No, this doesn’t necessarily mean it will be exactly your style but learn how to mesh. We did Star Wars, but I selected vintage art and had them framed. It still reads kid; I couldn’t go totally out of my comfort zone.
Maddox’s bed even doubles as storage. We have drawers under the bed which holds seasonal clothes!

USE COLOR
Kids dream in color! Our upstairs play area is a host of many activities. It is our lounge area, Maddox’s school area, and where he and his friends are hanging out more and more. I wanted to embrace color and make this area vibrant. I went bold painting a statement wall a deep green and did not shy away from a navy sofa.
Say you aren’t quite ready to make the jump to paint walls. Adding bright and colorful accessories are a great way to add vibrancy to any space. Don’t forget about lighting. Adding a whimsical chandelier or lamps can transform the feel of a room.
I also love integrating custom murals into my designs. I had this beauty handpainted and added a fun touch by integrating whimsical landmarks! To see more from this project click here!

Displaying Art
Maddox loves drawing Cartoons, and maybe you have a little artist on your hand. Design a space for their artwork to be center stage. Create a gallery wall using large picture frames showcasing their masterpieces, paint a wall using chalkboard paint, or make a whiteboard wall. If you aren’t ready to hang art, opt for artwork that inspires and represents your family.
Dedicating an Area for Their Passions
Kids passions can last years or only a few months, so when designing this area, make sure to keep the more substantial items neutral, making it easier to transition to the next obsession, I mean passion.
