Something I love most about being a homeowner is having room for our family and friends to come to stay with us. This chic guestroom hasn’t changed much over the last two years but I try to add new accessories or inexpensive pillows every now in that to keep it fresh and welcoming. I want to share how to create a chic guestroom and explain how to style it so that your guests feel right at home!
Anytime we have guests staying I have a quick checklist that takes maybe 5 minutes to complete. I have included this guest list for you to print or pin to use each time you have guests coming over!
Lighting
Depending on their ETA I adjust the lighting accordingly. For daytime arrivals, I have the shutters open allowing the natural light to pour in. Before any evening arrivals, I close the shutters, turn the ceiling light off, and turn on the lamp. I also make sure to turn on our hallway sconces and living room lamps in case they need to move around the house during the night.
Water
Before arrival and each day our guests are here, I leave a couple of water bottles on the console table. These typically are room temperature so that they have easy access to fresh water during the night or day.
Flowers
Fresh flowers! What else says “welcome” like the smell of fresh flowers in your room? I typically buy seasonal flowers arranged in a decorative vase.
Bedding
I truly have focused on the bedding in this room so that our guests have options to accommodate any needs. Along with a nice set of sheets, I have also layered the bed with a duvet (no insert) and a duvet with a heavy insert. For one I love the way these layers make the styled bed appear but it also works great so that our guests have options for their comfort level. In our guest closet, I also leave an extra set of sheets as well as blankets for their use if needed. I always ask if the temperature of the room is okay to their liking and let them know when the thermostat is.
Style
I personally don’t feel like there are any hard fast rules you should follow when it comes to the color theme for your room. This guest room is colorful and vibrant while our upstairs guestroom is dark and moody. I plan to share that room with you soon! Decide what vibe you want to give and then take it from there. If you need tips on how to mix prints and patterns I have a simple blog post about that. I also have a blog post about incorporating color into your space if that peaks your interest.
Details
I have a luggage rack so that guests can set their suitcase or bag on. This frees up floor space and makes unpacking an ease.

Reading materials are always a nice touch and give your guest something to do if they have trouble sleep or need a little quiet time. I leave the latest home decor magazines as well as an uplifting book.Jewelry trays are a cute little touch that the females will truly appreciate. I leave one next to the sink so that rings and other valuables have a dedicated place to sit.
WIFI is a must. These days letter boards are all the talk and so inexpensive. Add your network name and password so guests can easily log in.
Even though your guests are on a little (or big) getaway they will still need a clock, even if is just so they can check for that happy hour!
Mirror, mirror on the wall. Get a full body mirror so your guests can check themselves out. You know you do the same thing every day, no shame.
