I am back; our summer vacation is everything that summer vacation dreams are made of!! We created so many new memories, went on tons of adventures, and had a blast. It also allowed me time away from the day to day grind, coming back refreshed and restored! My creative juices are overflowing! That same feeling of redundancy and blah can happen in our living rooms. We spend the majority of our time in our living room, and over time, it can become dull. Our living room was no exception! Our living room refresh/update has been a PROCESS, and today, I am so excited to share the final product.
A MODERN FIREPLACE
When we walked into our living room after being gone for two weeks, it is as if I was walking into it for the first time. Wish isn’t far from the truth. Seeing as we the fireplace remodel was barely complete before we left. The new grand fireplace introduces a modern aspect to this space, reflecting more of my current styling for the house while blending in the traditional built-in element.
CUSTOM ARTWORK
One MAJOR perk of being an interior designer is the opportunities you get to collaborate with other incredible talents. The custom artwork above the mantle is by Leticia Demeuse, a California based artist who is greatly talented. To begin the process of creating this masterpiece, we discussed the overall color pallet of our home and answering questions about the type of art I find myself drawn towards. I tend to lean to abstract pieces when selecting art for myself. Leticia was terrific to work with. She sent pictures throughout the entire process. There are so many layers and subtle details in this piece one I will treasure forever.
LIVABLE FURNITURE
In the old days, you had to choose between comfort over appearance well those days are long gone. The idea of white furniture can scare people, especially white sofas. Once I decided to take the plunge and go for it, fabric selection became of the upmost importance!! Selecting a high-performance fabric means more stain-resistant, and the fabric maintains its integrity longer. I took that same approach for our kitchen barstools, choosing a leather fabric, making it effortless to clean.

UNIQUE CHAIRS
One goal when selecting new furniture in our living room was to increase seating capacity. I love blending different styles of furniture within a space, opting for pieces that go together but aren’t matchy — the chase loungers were the perfect fit in this space. Their depth fills the space creating a more intimate seating, and I love that they can be pushed together to make one HUGE lounger!!
I wanted to add color into this space utilizing chairs but didn’t know where that would lead me. Once I laid eyes on the black woven chairs, I was sold. Yes, black is adding color! The classic lines of this chair are completely modernized by the leather woven straps and the stud details. Look close even the arms unique being the leather straps.
ALL IN THE DETAILS
You can have the most fabulous furniture in a living room, but if you leave out the little details, ultimately you will be left with a room that feels unfinished. Now hear me out. Adding details does not mean over adding and creating clutter. I wanted this room to be light, airy, and not overdone, deciding to take a minimalist approach when designing and incorporating those final touches. The wall mirror was the easiest in the entire room. The size alone makes such an impact in this space, yet it manages to feel soft and delicate.

Redoing this room has breathed new life into me! I am ready to take on the world, and by the world, I am referring to furnishing our brand-new backyard oasis. Now I know this is a drastic refresh and one that has taken almost a year to fully complete. Has it been worth it, 100%! But maybe you aren’t in the place where you need to do a major overhaul. Perhaps your dull is just pillow, or a new rug…never underestimate the power of a few new pieces to transform a space. Thank you all so much for coming along for the journey of our living room refresh!
